What is a brief explanation of Microblading and how is it done?
Microblading is a manual method used to deposit small amounts of ink into the layer of the skin. A blade consisting of many needles will be used to mimic thin strokes one at a time, creating hair-like strands onto the brows.
-
Besides microblading, what are other tattoo procedures I can choose from?
Shading - Once the shape is drawn, we will color lightly within the shape with a hollow, vibrating needle that penetrates into your skin and a droplet of pigment is released into the holes that the needle makes. It’s very similar to getting a body tattoo. This technique works best for clients who like their eyebrows to look more dramatic than just natural hair strokes. Clients who want it to look penciled-in at all times and more visible, this is the technique to choose!
3D Strokes - Very similar to microblading but instead, it’s done with the vibrating needle as well. A special single needle will be used to draw out each stroke to give a “line” look. The only difference between this technique and microblading is this appears better on clients with darker skin tones. It also penetrates deeper into the skin which will look more dark and bold.
-
What is the process like?
Microblading is a two-step treatment, consisting of an initial procedure and then a touch up 4 to 6 weeks after. To start, we will ask for your permission to take some photos (before and after). Then we use wax to clean your eyebrow. Once that is done, we go over what shape and color you desire. If needed, measurements will be made, and a shape will be drawn/penciled on to give you an idea of what it will look like. Keep in mind; pencil shadings will appear to be different versus the microblading technique, which results in more natural hair-strokes look. (Drawing on will only give an outline and example to what look is ideal.) Shortly after that, the numbing cream will be applied onto the eyebrow & skin area for about 30 minutes. Once you’re numb, microblading will take place, and the pigment is deposited. During healing, it’s normal to experience some pigment loss; this is why we have the touch-up in place. The process is considered to be complete 4 weeks after the first session.
-
How long does it take to do?
The procedure takes roughly about 1 hour, sometimes more, sometimes less. Much of that time is spent choosing colors, designs, and allowing the topical anesthetic to take effect. Please allow a solid 2-hour window for your appointment. We likely won’t need that much time, but this isn’t something we want to rush. Also, allow the extra time just in case there are unexpected delays with prior clients. This situation is rare, but just in case, your understanding will be greatly appreciated.
-
How long do the results last?
It is considered to be a semi-permanent tattoo. Therefore, it will not go away completely, but after so many years it will lighten up and fade. For that reason, a touch-up session is necessary to refresh the color and define the shape. Your tattoo will last as long as it’s maintained. Untouched, the ink will last 1-3 years.
-
How often do I need a touch-up?
Touch-ups are recommended every 1 to 2 years to keep the color fresh and the strokes crisp. In most cases, clients often return every 2-3 years. It’s a personal preference thing.
-
What is the touch-up session for?
To modify any noticeable minor flaws and to redeposit more ink into the spots where ink didn’t take enough. Usually after this touch-up session, clients are happier because brows are now more even, fuller, and nicer (Eyebrows will be fresh and dark again just like the first session. Repeat healing process).
-
Will the touch-up session be quicker than the initial session?
In most cases, yes. Unless the client didn’t heal correctly or extra work is needed, rather than just simple fixes. Or if a client wants to add more to their brows such as changing shape, then it would take longer.
-
Do you have to wax or shave off all of the current brow hair?
No. definitely not!
-
Does it hurt? Is it painful?
A topical anesthetic specially prescribed for this procedure will be applied to numb the area. Each individual will have a different definition of pain and tolerance level, but in most cases, clients don’t feel anything that is unbearable. There can be some discomfort associated with the procedure. People say the sensation is similar to getting scratched slightly but consistently. Additional numbing is prepared in the event clients still feel pain.
-
Does it cause bleeding?
Majority of the time, yes! But it is absolutely normal to bleed while getting a tattoo. Some clients bleed a lot, some bleed a little, some barely bleed at all. A specially formulated gel will be applied to the skin to control and eliminate bleeding and swelling during the process if needed. Excessive bleeding, however, pushes the pigment out as quickly as it is being implanted, which causes lighter spots in eyebrows once healed. (This can be fixed at touch-up)
-
How long does it take to heal?
Healing time varies from individual to individual. Usually, it takes about a week to 10 days for the epithelial crust to form and slough off. In most cases, clients will start itching after 3-4 days; this is when you know your skin is starting to scab and you will see it falling off naturally as you’re washing your face. Your skin will be considered healed after that happens and your brows will appear more natural. A good month should pass before we consider the healing process complete and you come back for a touch-up session.
-
Do you use new needles?
YES! A brand new needle for every client. Brand new gloves, ink rings, etc. Each client will be getting everything new! We don’t believe in reusing. We believe in sanitation.
-
What type of pigments are used?
Our pigment selection is FDA approved. A wide range of colors is available.
-
Do you draw the shape on first?
In most cases, yes. Especially for those clients who have no brows at all and want a dramatic change to give them a certain shape and size. Also, shapes will be drawn on for clients who are looking for a specific shape brow. It is not necessary to draw on clients who already have brows and just want an enhancement to make their brows a bit fuller and defined. Helen is well experienced and can easily free hand for minor enhancements.
-
Do you have a book of eyebrows to choose a design from?
I can provide a picture of the most popular brow arches and thicknesses as a communication tool. However, I have had clients that brought in a photo of eyebrows they liked on some celebrities, then did not like the same exact brows drawn on them. So we modified the eyebrows to suit their face more. It was a helpful ballpark starting point to know what the client liked. It is best if I work with your natural pattern; just making yours better - enhancing it a little.
-
What if I don’t know how I want my brows done?
For clients who have never had brows or don’t know what brows they want, and need professional opinions, I will do my best to give you the set of brows that I believe will compliment your face. You must approve of all design work (color & shape) before we proceed.
-
Do I need to take a day off work?
No. There’s no downtime associated with the treatment. Redness and swelling will dissipate within an hour after. Your brows will appear darker initially, but not so dark that you will be prevented from your daily activities.
-
How should I prepare for my appointment?
Not taking anything that is considered a blood thinner a few days before your appointment will be very helpful. If you are taking certain medicines, check with a doctor to see if it is considered a blood thinner. Alcohol is also considered a blood thinner so please try to avoid drinking the day before your appointment. Leave your eyebrows alone for a week (no tweezing, waxing or any form of hair removal). Think about everything you want to be done to your eyebrows, save some photos, and do more research about the procedure if you feel like you didn’t get enough information yet. Eat a good meal and come on a full stomach! It helps!
-
What should I do after the procedure and what can’t I do?
You will be advised to keep the skin clean and follow the aftercare instructions provided. An aftercare ointment and care sheet will be given to you. No direct exposure to sunlight (ex. Tanning). Avoid brows soaked in water (Swimming is number 1 no no). Dap dry brows, no harsh scrubbing. No picking, peeling, or pulling the tattoo and scabs or ink will come off with it. Apply ointment 4-5 times a day to help brows stay smooth and heal nicely.
-
Why are my brows so dark after the tattoo?
All fresh tattoos will be dark for at least 1 week, or until skin is completely healed. Once all the scabs fall off, the natural ink color will show. You will lose about 30% of what you leave with after the initial visit.
-
Why are my eyebrows uneven after tattooing?
No need to panic. It can be uneven due to many different reasons, mainly swollen tissues and puffiness at the time. More ink taken in certain areas of the brows on one eye versus the other can also be another reason. No matter what it is, once eyebrows heal you can then tell exactly where the brows sit and correctly modify it at the touch-up session.
-
Why don’t my eyebrows look perfect?
Eyebrows are not twins; they are sisters. We can only do so much as human beings to make them look as similar as possible. Also take into consideration that no one’s face is symmetrical. More or less, our faces are naturally uneven. When you open your eyes, make certain facial expressions, muscle movements, etc. all can affect why your eyebrows can’t look perfect. My job is to enhance your eyebrows to make them look nicer, fuller, and well-shaped to the best of my ability.
-
What if I don’t like my results?
There are several things that can be done depending on what it is that you don’t like. Your eyebrows can be modified to a certain point. That’s why it is helpful to know what you want and how you want your eyebrows, from shape and color to the technique you want to go with. The things to take into consideration are your bone structure, skin tone and face shape.
-
Can you guarantee your work?

I can guarantee that I will strive to make you gratified and content every time. But there are no guarantees in this industry.
